Psalm 119:172 | “My tongue will sing of your word, for all your commandments are right.”

The psalmist turns from lips to tongue. His tongue will sing of God’s word. What God has taught him through the law becomes the content of his praise. Revelation and response belong together. Because all God’s commandments are right, they are worthy of proclamation. The psalmist does not praise selectively. He rejoices in the whole counsel of God, confident that every word is righteous and good. Spurgeon urges us forward: “Oh, that we could come to the same resolve as this godly man, and say henceforth, ‘My tongue shall speak of thy word.’ Then should we break through our sinful silence; we should no more be cowardly and half-hearted, but should be true witnesses for Jesus. It is not only of God’s works that we are to speak, but of his word. We may extol its truth, its wisdom, its preciousness, its grace, its power; and then we may tell of all it has revealed, all it has promised, all it has commanded, all it has effected.” May our tongues do the same. Taught by God, persuaded of the rightness of his word, we speak. We sing. We testify.
