Psalm 119:38 | “Confirm to your servant your promise, that you may be feared.”
The psalmist humbly pleads for God to make his word certain in his life. The verb “confirm” conveys the idea of bringing to fulfillment what God has spoken. He longs not only to know God’s promises but to experience their reality. The psalmist’s request is not self-centered but God-centered: he desires the fulfillment of God’s word so that the Lord will be revered. Matthew Henry beautifully observes, “What God has promised we must pray for; we need not be so aspiring as to ask more, nor so modest as to ask less.” When God’s promises come to pass, our faith is strengthened, and reverent awe spreads among his people. May we boldly pray with humble hearts that God would fulfill his word in us, so that our lives might lead others to fear and worship him. Let your answered prayers become testimonies that magnify his name and not your own.
