Psalm 119:74 | “Those who fear you shall see me and rejoice, because I have hoped in your word.”
The psalmist is walking through affliction. He faces trouble, hardship, and even persecution. Yet he looks ahead with steady hope. He knows that those who fear the Lord will see how God delivers him, and they will rejoice with him. His confidence in the word gives courage not only to himself but also to others who love the Lord. Charles Spurgeon writes, “Hopeful men bring gladness with them. Despondent spirits spread the infection of depression, and hence few are glad to see them, while those whose hopes are grounded upon God’s word carry sunshine in their faces, and are welcomed by their fellows. There are professors whose presence scatters sadness, and the godly quietly steal out of their company: may this never be the case with us.” No matter what hardship we face today, may our hope in the Lord shine in such a way that it lifts the hearts of others and strengthens their faith as they see Christ in us.
