Peace flows from trust in God and in his word. Those who love God’s law have great peace. Spurgeon writes, “What a charming verse is this! It deals not with those who perfectly keep the law, for where should such men be found? but with those who love it, whose hearts and hands are made to square with its precepts and demands.” This is genuine peace. It cannot be increased or diminished by the events of our lives. It does not rise with success or collapse with disappointment. Our peace rests outside ourselves, beyond our relationships and circumstances, whether pleasant or painful. It rests in the unchanging character of God and in the enduring truth of his word. The promise is not reserved for the flawless, but for the faithful. “Nothing can make them stumble.” No obstacle ultimately overthrows them. This does not mean trials disappear. It means they are not spiritually ruined by them. Anchored in the word, they remain at rest even when everything around them gives way.
Psalm 119:165 | “Great peace have those who love your law; nothing can make them stumble.”
