Psalm 119:23 | “Even though princes sit plotting against me, your servant will meditate on your statutes.”

Though those in high places rose up against the psalmist, his hope did not rest in their opinion but in the authority of God and his word. Matthew Henry captures this beautifully: “What method he took to make himself easy under these abuses: he meditated in God’s statutes, went on in his duty, and did not regard them; as a deaf man, he heard not. When they spoke against him, he found that in the word of God which spoke for him, and spoke comfort to him, and then none of these things moved him. Those that have pleasure in communion with God may easily despise the censures of men, even of princes.” When cultural voices or respected leaders misrepresent or oppose us for our faith, our stability must not come from public approval. Instead of obsessing over their words, return to Scripture. Let God’s voice be louder than theirs. Refuse to let criticism distract you from faithfulness. A heart anchored in God’s statutes can remain steady even when powerful people sit in judgment.
