Psalm 119:25 | “My soul clings to the dust; give me life according to your word!”

Psalm 119:25 opens the daleth stanza of the psalm. The image of clinging to the dust is a vivid picture of someone at the brink of death, crushed by deep distress. In that place of desperation, the psalmist cries out for God to breathe life into him again. His hope is “according to your word.” Spurgeon wisely notes, “Certainly, the man of God had not so many rich promises to rest upon as we have, but even a single word was enough for him, and he right earnestly urges ‘according to thy word.’ It is a grand thing to see a believer in the dust and yet pleading the promise, a man at the grave’s mouth crying, ‘quicken me,’ and hoping that it shall be done.” As we trust and obey God and his word, he saves us from the grip of sin and the powers of darkness. When you feel spiritually dry or overwhelmed, do not withdraw from the word. Run to it and ask God to revive you by the very promises you read.
