Psalm 119:32 | “I will run in the way of your commandments, when you enlarge my heart!”
The psalmist moves from walking to running in the way of God’s commandments. His desire to obey is eager and joyful. This transformation comes from God, who has “enlarged his heart” by giving him deeper understanding, renewed joy, and freedom from the burdens that once held him back. Matthew Henry beautifully writes, “The joy of our Lord should be wheels to our obedience.” And Spurgeon adds, “We must run; for grace is not an overwhelming force which compels unwilling minds to move contrary to their will: our running is the spontaneous leaping forward of a mind which has been set free by the hand of God, and delights to show its freedom by its bounding speed.” Each day may we ask the Lord to enlarge our hearts by his grace, making us so full of love for him that obedience becomes not only our duty but our absolute delight.
