Psalm 119:59 | “I consider my ways and turn my feet to your testimonies.”
The psalmist describes a moment of self-examination that brings real change. To consider means to weigh carefully or to reflect deeply. He pauses to think about the direction of his life and, as a result, turns his feet from self to God in repentance. True repentance begins when we stop, look honestly at our lives, and realign our steps with the rule of God’s word. Matthew Henry observes that the psalmist did not focus on possessions or success, but on his conduct, for “what we do will follow us into another world when what we have must be left behind.” Henry also warns, “Many are critical enough in their remarks upon other people’s ways who never think of their own.” We too must take time to examine our ways. Where are you walking today, and in what area might you need to turn from your own path and choose instead to walk in God’s way?
