Psalm 119:60 | “I hasten and do not delay to keep your commandments.”
The psalmist expresses an eagerness to obey God without hesitation. He does not postpone what he knows is right but moves quickly to do what God has said. Matthew Henry writes, “When we are called to duty we must lose no time, but set about it to-day, while it is called to-day.” Delay in obedience weakens conviction and dulls the heart. Commentator Allen Ross notes that the psalmist’s eagerness to keep God’s commands corresponds to his urgent prayers for God to fulfill his promises. Ross writes, “There is something hollow about people pleading for God to fulfill the promises in his word when they pay little attention to keeping his word.” Genuine faith not only trusts in God’s promises but also responds with immediate obedience to his commands. It is easy to convince ourselves that partial obedience or postponed obedience is acceptable. But the longer we delay, the quieter the voice of conscience becomes. Obedience thrives on promptness. If there is something the Lord has clearly called you to do, do not hesitate. A life that honors him is built one quick act of obedience at a time.
