Psalm 119:63 | “I am a companion of all who fear you, of those who keep your precepts.”

The psalmist declares his loyalty to the Lord by joining himself with others who share the same devotion. His love for God is shown not only in obedience but also in his associations. He chooses as companions those who “fear” (yare) the Lord and walk according to his commands. The Hebrew word chaver (“companion”) expresses a close bond of friendship and shared purpose. The godly are united in their desire to honor God and obey his word. Spurgeon writes, “Birds of a feather flock together. A man is known by his company. Those who have no fear of God before their eyes seldom desire the society of saints; it is too slow, too dull for them.” To fear the Lord is to delight in the company of those who do the same. The people you choose to walk through life with reveal what you truly love and who you really are. Pursue friendships that sharpen your obedience and strengthen your fear of the Lord. Your spiritual direction will almost always follow the company you choose.
