Psalm 119:14 | “In the way of your testimonies I delight as much as in all riches.”
The psalmist delights in the way of God’s testimonies more than in wealth. This is not a denial that riches may bring temporary pleasure, but a confession that they cannot compare with the joy found in knowing God. Spurgeon writes, “He compared his intense satisfaction with God’s will with that of a man who possesses large and varied estates, and the heart to enjoy them.” The psalmist imagines the fullness of earthly prosperity and declares that walking in God’s revealed will brings greater delight. Jesus taught, “Seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you” (Matthew 6:33). We may affirm that Scripture is precious, yet our schedules, spending, and conversations often expose what we value most. When God opens our eyes to the worth of his word, we begin to see that fellowship with him surpasses every earthly gain. To delight in his testimonies is to recognize that knowing him is better than possessing anything else. Treasuring God above all frees us from the tyranny of lesser treasures.
