Psalm 119:44 | “I will keep your law continually, forever and ever.”

In response to God’s deliverance, the psalmist resolves to live in continual obedience. Gratitude compels him to faithfulness. Having experienced the steadfast love of God, he vows not merely to obey for a season but to keep God’s law “forever and ever.” His commitment flows from a heart rescued by grace. Spurgeon wrote, “Nothing more effectually binds a man to the way of the Lord than an experience of the truth of his word, embodied in the form of mercies and deliverance.” For those who belong to Christ, this same response is fitting. Jesus has delivered us from sin and death, so how could we not long to walk in his ways? Obedience is not a means of earning his favor but a grateful expression of having received it. Jesus asked in Luke 6:46, “Why do you call me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do what I tell you?” To disregard his word after tasting his mercy would reveal a heart untouched by true belief.
